BREAST is best and this week borough mums were encouraged to support Breastfeeding Awareness Week.
Mothercare stores and children’s centres in Solihull were visited by infant feeding coordinator Carmen Baskerville and breastfeeding facilitator Elaine Bates from Solihull Breastfeeding Service.
Carmen said: “One of the best things that only a mother can do for her baby is to breastfeed.
“This gives the baby the best start in life.
“We want to support women in their decision to breastfeed and help them continue to do so.”
Mum Laura Bourne from Coleshill was encouraged to breastfeed her second son Zane with the help of the breastfeeding café in Chelmsley Wood.
Now the 25 year-old has gone on to train as a peer supporter and helps other new mothers at a new breastfeeding cafe in Smiths Wood.
Laura said: “The breastfeeding cafes are good because you can sometimes feel like you are the only one having difficulties but there you find out you’re not.”.
