POLICE swooped on addresses in Shirley, Sheldon and Acocks Green this week, as the hunt for the killers of Craig Hodson-Walker continued.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, officers mounted raids on six properties in the Solihull and south Birmingham area. Eight people were arrested - four on suspicion of murder/attempted murder and four on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Houses in Elmay Road, Sheldon, Shirley Park Road, Shirley, and Olton Boulevard East, Acocks Green, were among the homes raided.
Yesterday it was announced that West Mercia Police had been granted extra time to question the eight people arrested in the initial raids and a ninth who was taken into custody on Tuesday evening. All nine individuals are currently being held in police stations across West Mercia and the West Midlands.
Craig Hodson-Walker was killed during a robbery at a Post Office in Fairfield, near Bromsgrove. The raiders had been carrying a sledgehammer and handgun when they burst into the premises a week ago today (Friday). The 29-year-old received a fatal gunshot wound, while his father Ken was shot in the leg.
In the days that followed the robbery, the line of enquiries led from the Worcestershire village to the heart of the West Midlands. The car which is believed to have been used by the robbers - a Volkswagen Golf - was stolen from the borough on New Year’s Eve. It was spotted in the south Birmingham vicinity in the days leading up to Mr Hodson-Walker’s murder and eventually dumped just half a mile from Fairfield.
In a statement released yesterday, police appealed for anyone with information about the murder to call 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
