FOUR hundred jobs will be created when Asda opens a brand-new store in Chelmsley Wood.
The supermarket giant will be opening its new branch in June and is already looking for local people to fill the hundreds of vacancies. Both full-time and part-time positions will be available and the store is to work closely with local employment agencies.
Yesterday’s announcement follows cutbacks at companies around the borough - jobs have gone at Jaguar Land Rover, Woolworths, Bank of Ireland and many smaller businesses. Now at last there’s good news for local jobhunters.
Tracey McElroy, manager of the new Asda, said: “We really want to give local people the opportunity to work here.”
Dawn Ralph, from Jobcentre Plus said: “We welcome Asda’s commitment to recruit people from the local area, particularly people who may have been at a disadvantage in the jobs market.’’
Anyone interested in applying should call Chelmsley Wood Jobcentre Plus on 0121 480 4693 / 4694.
