A NEW initiative to combat burglars is being launched in Solihull.
Knowle, Dorridge, and Blythe neighbourhood team are hoping that Solihull Property Watch will make thieves think twice, and help reunite people with their property.
As part of the scheme, homeowners will receive a crime reduction pack – which includes holographic stickers, and a special pen (the ink is only visible under ultra violet light).
Police Sergeant Ann Strachan, who is launching the initiative with the help of neighbourhood watch, said: “Solihull Property Watch will not only act as a deterrent to would-be burglars, but if property is stolen that
is properly marked, it helps
the police immensely in identifying the owners, and assists greatly in the investigation process.
“It is also a great opportunity to engage with our neighbourhood community and groups such as Neighbourhood Watch, and residents associations, who are always keen to get involved, and help us with these types of initiatives.”
Once they’ve received their packs, householders are being encouraged to mark everything from TVs to computers.
And residents should not forget about the smaller objects like mobile phones and laptops – which can be prime target for the opportunist thief.
