CHESWICK Green residents have welcomed the news that a new bus service will be replacing the No 4 - a route which is being withdrawn next month.
The new service - the S4 - will be run by Grosvenor Coaches and starts on January 25. It will run between Robin Hood Island and Solihull train station and allow villagers to travel to destinations such as Widney Manor Rail Station, the Sixth Form College, Solihull and the town centre.
When locals first heard the news that the No 4 was going to be discontinued, there was widespread concern.. Students, pensioners and others who rely on public transport were particularly angry.
Councillor Tim Hodgson (Lib Dem, Shirley South) had previously hit out at the decision to withdraw the No 4, but said he was pleased that there will be a replacement.
“I am delighted that, following feedback from both the community and elected representatives, Grosvenor Coaches have stepped forward to provide an essential service for both Cheswick Green and Shirley South.
“I hope people will use this new service as we do not want to be in the position of again of having our bus service axed.”
The S4 is one of several new services which are being introduced to the borough in the New Year.
