New service to offer family help

PARENTS will be able to access a new council backed family information service from next Monday.

PARENTS will be able to access a new council backed family information service from next Monday.

The initiative replaces the current children’s information service and means that parents with youngsters aged 0-19 years can receive advice on a range of topics from childcare to family support services as well as things to do and places to go.

A series of roadshows featuring entertainment and face painting have been planned to promote the new services.

The roadshow starts off at Chelmsley Wood shopping centre on April 6, then goes to Balsall Common library on April 7 and Mell Square on April 9.

Cabinet member for education, children and young people Councillor Ken Meeson said: “Since the Children’s Information Service was set up in 1999, it has done a lot of good work and supported many families across the borough.

“With changes to our statutory responsibilities and our work to give every child a brighter future, it was time to evaluate the current service and enhance it to reflect the needs of Solihull’s diverse community.”
