THE Rev Jeremy Knapp was due to take over as the new vicar of Olton during a ceremony at St Margaret’s Church on Tuesday, conducted by the Bishop of Aston, the Rt Rev Andrew Watson.
Mr Knapp, 41, was a team vicar at St Patrick’s, Salter Street, Earlswood, and St John’s, Tidbury Green, and used to live on the Olton-Acocks Green border.
Ordained in 1999, he spent three years as curate at St James’s, Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield, before becoming a team vicar.
He and his wife Karen - who is a teacher at Dickens Heath Primary School - have moved into the vicarage next to St Margaret’s Church with their daughter and two sons.
Mr Knapp said he was “looking forward to being part of the life and community of Olton, especially the church and St Margaret’s Primary School.”
He succeeds the Reverends Nigel and Denise Jones, both of whom left St Margaret’s last summer .
The couple retired after serving the community for about seven years.
