Next generation of bowling stars

TWO very proud Midlands grandparents welcomed a new addition to a long line of family bowlers on Friday April 22.

Sue and Keith Saunders, of Ebrington Avenue in Solihull, are delighted at the birth of their grandson, Cole Saunders, who will surely follow in the footsteps of the rest of his family, who are keen participants in the sport.

Both Keith and maternal grandfather John Robinson bowl at the sports complex at Solihull Marsh Lane, along with Cole’s father Craig and older brother Connor, 7. The newborn’s Uncle Scott Saunders also bowls for Moseley, and Warwickshire and Worcester County.

Keith, 64, has been bowling since he was 14, and is current Chairman at Solihull Marsh Lane - his passion has clearly rubbed off on the rest of his family.

Grandmother Sue said: “We try and encourage the younger generation into bowling. Many people assume that it’s an old man’s sport, but it’s not.

“Connor bowls on a Saturday, and the whole family can go along. He really enjoys it and it’s a really brilliant day out for everyone.”

As well as the bowling team, the sports centre at Solihull Marsh Lane also boasts a cricket team and numerous tennis courts, offering sporting opportunities for many in the community.
