SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has apologised to a Lapworth woman after a member of staff refused to serve her because she was on her mobile phone.
Jenny Morgan was astounded by the turn of events when she visited the Stratford Road store. An employee working on the fish counter said he could not serve Jenny because she was using her mobile.
“I was talking to my friend on the phone and went to stand by the fish counter,” she told the Solihull News. “I waited and waited and eventually I said to my friend that I would have to go and find someone to serve me.
“It was then that the man shouted down the counter and said he couldn’t serve me while I was talking on my mobile. I rang off and put my phone away but he still refused to serve me. I eventually went to customer services but I didn’t get anywhere.”
Eventually Jenny left the supermarket without completing her shop. She said she was very annoyed by the experience and wanted to know if this was store policy.
“I always see people in supermarkets phoning home to check things with their families. I certainly won’t be getting my fish from Tesco in the future.”
A Tesco spokesman said: “Needless to say there is no policy like this in place so it was completely the wrong thing to say and we’re sorry.”
