Oliver! Birmingham Hippodrome.
THIS musical was made famous by the big screen version in 1968 with such tunes as ‘Consider Yourself’, ‘Food, Glorious Food’ and ‘Where Is Love?’
To say this stage version met expectations is an understatement.
This performance really had something for everyone. It was quite racy in parts, especially the ‘OOM-PAH-PAH’ scene while still remaining touching during the more emotional scenes.
What stood out in particular was the amazing set design which in many ways made the musical. It felt like the cast had stepped directly into Dickens’ novel.
The star-studded cast includes funny man Neil Morrissey famous for his role in Men Behaving Badly, who plays the lovable rogue Fagin.
A special mention must be given to the child actors that make this tale so memorable. Their ability to sing, dance and act for what is a two and a half hour show boggles the mind.
Until April 21.
