On song for national title

A TALENTED singing shop assistant from Sheldon is in the final 50 of an X Factor-style competition for retail workers and needs local votes.

Shireenah Ingram, aged 20, works at Hawes and Curtis shirt shop in New Street, Birmingham, and is urging locals to vote for her in the Retail Trust Search For A Star competition.

The ten acts with the most text votes will perform in a secret London location on December 8 in front of a judging panel.

The overall winner gets to record their own single, meet music industry bosses, stay at a five star hotel and perform live at Heathrow Terminal 5 and in House Of Fraser’s shop window on Oxford Street.

“I need my hometown backing me,” Shireenah said.

“I believe I have the talent to win this competition but I can’t get to the next stage without these votes!

“I plan to use this opening as a way of showing my artistic flair which I have never taken beyond singing in school plays or composing at home with my keyboard.

“I’m going to love the journey this competition is going to take me on!”

Shireenah will sing at The Globe pub in Newtown, Birmingham, from 7.30pm tomorrow (Saturday). Entry is free and refreshments are provided.

“I organised this gig as a way of saying thanks for all the ongoing support and to hopefully gain some more votes,” Shireenah said.

The Retail Trust charity offers emotional support for people working in retail.

Vote for Shireenah by texting Star 24 to 70099. Voting closes on November 30 at 11.59pm.
