Open door was all it took for thief to strike

OPPORTUNIST burglars stole a handbag left inside the front door of a house in The Green, Tanworth-in-Arden.

OPPORTUNIST burglars stole a handbag left inside the front door of a house in The Green, Tanworth-in-Arden.

Warwickshire Police said the door had not closed properly, making it easy for passing thieves to enter the hallway and steal the bag sometime between the hours of 5 and 6.50pm last Monday (November 10).

The handbag was recovered nearby by police soon afterwards, minus a mobile phone, purse and digital camera.

Witnesses or anyone who may have seen suspicious activity that could be linked to the burglary is asked to call PC Michael McSweeney at Stratford Police Station on 01926 415000 ext 10780 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

DS Martyn Stephens said: "We are urging homeowners to please not only check their doors and windows are shut properly, but locked as well.

"Opportunist thieves are known to check a number of properties in a road before deciding which is the easiest to target.

"If you leave a window or door open it is very easy for thieves to get in.

"Please look at your property through the eyes of a potential burglar and make it as difficult as possible for them to steal your valuables."
