A business owner and brain behind the successful networking initiative Solihull Hour has been named Business Person of the Month.

Trish Willetts launched independent store BB Boutique last year, with her two daughters Jessie and Amy, to offer organic, quality baby clothes and locally-made toys and gifts.

With a background as an environment champion for Solihull Council, the 48-year-old had always dreamt of creating an ethical, sustainable business which supported British manufacturers and local producers.

But not content with an incredibly successful first year at the Solihull High Street shop, Trish has also been engaging with and motivating the local business community with #SolihullHour.

The online networking event encourages borough retailers and businesses to head to Twitter between 7pm-8pm every Tuesday to promote themselves and chat with other businessmen and women.

Trish was ‘touched’ to receive the coveted Business Person of the Month Award, run by the Solihull News and Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel, in a special winners luncheon last week.

“This means a lot to me,” said the mum-of-two, from Solihull, on receiving her award. “I had wanted to create a family business which would be here a long time and that’s what we have done.”

BB Boutique, named in memory of Trish’s inspirational mum Betsy Bassett, has cornered the market for unique children’s clothing, furniture, gifts and toys in the town; from the only organic Moses basket in the UK, to handcrafted wooden toys and top baby clothing retailers Frugi and Little Green Sheep.

Trish said she was also “very proud” of the Solihull Hour which has grown over the past 12 months to now provide a business directory and regular ‘tweet ups’ for members at venues across the borough.

“We are passionate about interacting with other retailers and felt it was so important to become part of the business community,” she added.

All our monthly winners will be invited back to the Marriott at the end of the year to see who will be crowned Solihull Business Person of the Year.
