AN Acocks Green pensioner died after a fire broke-out at his home last week.

AN Acocks Green pensioner died after a fire broke-out at his home last week.

Fire crews had managed to rescue the man, named locally as David Husband, from the property in Fox Green Crescent.

But he was confirmed dead shortly after his arrival at Heartlands Hospital

Three teams had been dispatched to the blaze, which started at about 2pm last Wednesday.

It’s understood that the alarm had been raised by workmen, who had been trimming trees in the suburban street.

Firefighters were able to get Mr Husband out of the semi-detached house, to be treated by waiting paramedics. Ambulance crews performed first-aid on the patient, who was in his seventies, and he was rushed to hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived, resuscitation attempts were started.

“A paramedic travelled with the crew as they continued carrying out resuscitation on the gentleman. But, sadly, it was not possible to save him.”

West Midlands Fire Service said that they were still investigating the cause of the fire.
