RECESSION is hitting the elderly hard and the Government must do more to help says Solihull Pensioners Convention.
Members were out in force this week, protesting about a meagre rise in state pension and highlighting their financial problems.
After a short protest outside the council’s Civic Suite, members met with deputy council leader Councillor Bob Sleigh to discuss how the authority can help their cause.
Following the talk, Coun Sleigh said he would be supporting their appeal scheme and has invited Syd Ashby, vice president of the National Pensioners Convention (NPC), to address Full Council later this year.
Josie Herbert, chairman of the Solihull branch, said: “Elections are looming and pensioners are getting angry - there are 11m votes riding on the pension issue.”
