SHIRLEY Conservative councillors have joined forces to mount a campaign against proposed mobile phone masts in the Blossomfield Road area.
Mobile phone service providers are looking to locate a new mast at one of a number of locations along Blossomfield Road, possibly at the junction with Dingle Lane or Kingslea Road or St Gerards Road.
Couns Gary Allport, Mark Parker and Peter Doyle, all representing Shirley wards, are adamant that these are the wrong locations for a new mast.
Coun Allport said: “We have successfully fought off a previous application for a mast on Dingle Lane and we intend to be successful again.”
Coun Doyle said: “Dingle Lane is just the wrong place for a mast being so close to the cluster of schools.”
Adding to the objections, Coun Parker said: “The area along Blossomfield Road, including Kingslea and St Gerards roads are highly residential so proving inappropriate for a mast. As councillors we will be working with residents to ensure we have a coordinated campaign to stop these masts at any of the proposed locations.”
