A SOLIHULL man has built a successful business out of playing the fool.

Matt Gupwell was shell-shocked when he lost his job two years ago, but the dad of two decided to try and fulfil a long-held dream to become a full-time entertainer.

Now Matt, aka The Fool Monty, has a full diary of bookings ranging from children’s parties to weddings and much more besides.

“In a little over two years my dream has become a successful reality and thriving entertainment business,” said the 37-year-old.

It was in March 2009 Matt found out he was being made redundant prompting him to put a business plan into action.

“With the support of family, advisors from Solihull Council and friends alike, The Fool Monty wasn’t just born, he exploded onto the entertainment scene,” said Matt.

He landed a contract as one half of a highly successful jester double act at Warwick Castle and hasn’t looked back since.

His latest venture is a special show at Olton’s Dovehouse Theatre entitled ‘The Magicians – of Solihull’ on Wednesday April 13.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £7 concessions and are available from the Dovehouse Theatre box office on 0121 706 7139.
