A plucky pensioner battered a thief over the head with her crutch after he forced his way into her house and began to rifle through her purse.
The 81-year-old woman was alone in her home in Walsgrave Drive, Elmdon Heath, when the offender knocked on her door.
Thinking it was her next door neighbour, she answered, but the man barged past her and began to rummage through belongings in her living room.
He stole £110 from her purse and fled - but not before the woman had managed to land a few blows with her walking aid.
The incident happened on February 22, at around 1.30pm, and the victim was able to give a detailed description to police.
The offender was around 6ft tall, clean-shaven, in his early 20s and of average build, with a very pale complexion and short shiny wavy black hair.
The young man had a distinctive calf-length overcoat which was dark navy or black and also wore dark bottoms. He spoke in a foreign language.
Det Con Lucinda Wilson, from Solihull Police, said: “The victim was extremely brave in trying to fight off the offender, but she’s understandably been left terrified by the whole ordeal.
“She blames herself for the robbery and now struggles to sleep because of what happened.”
