CHILDREN, parents and teachers, from across Solihull, gathered for a major poetry event at Lyndon School last week.

Over 260 pupils had entered a competition, with the best receiving prizes from the retiring Mayor of Solihull - Norman Davies. Before the event, the young wordsmiths had received some tips from former Birmingham Poet Laureate Richard Grant, otherwise known as Dreadlockalien.

The best poems have also been included in an anthology - which was printed with a little help from Jaguar Land Rover.

Teacher Rowena Bailey, who organised the project, said: “It’s wonderful to see such enthusiasm and creativity.”
