Police on a high after three cannabis raids

POLICE in Solihull are asking local residents to stay alert after three ‘cannabis factories’ were raided this month.

POLICE in Solihull are asking local residents to stay alert after three ‘cannabis factories’ were raided this month.

Officers believe that organised drug-gangs are trying their luck in the borough after a recent swoop in Knowle revealed 750 plants.

The find in leafy Barcheston Road comes hot on the heels of raids on Warwick Road, and Goldthorne Avenue in Sheldon.

It is understood that the house was rented and that the owners are thought to live in Switzerland.

Although no-one was in the house at the time, police found evidence that the property in Knowle was being used to cultivate ‘skunk’ cannabis.

“Although the plants grow very quickly, it is clear that these plants must have been there for weeks,” said DS Richard Huckvale from Solihull CID.

“We rely solely on information from the public so we do need their help.

“Tell-tale signs are houses which have all the windows and curtains shut.

“Often you will be able to hear a humming noise coming from the house and there will be a strongly recognisable aroma.”

Police also confirmed that 234 plants and 460 seed links were found at a house on Warwick Road last week along with special lighting and electrical equipment.

Anyone with information about last week’s discovery or who has suspicions themselves should call Solihull police on 0845 113 5000.
