POLICE and fire experts were this week probing an early morning blaze at a two-storey mid-terrace house in Sarehole Road, Hall Green.
Two fire crews from Highgate and one from Billesley were alerted at 1.43am. When they arrived at the scene, a man and a woman, alerted by the sound of breaking glass, had escaped safely through bedroom windows.
The fire at the back of the house initially affected the conservatory. Flames spread to the kitchen and upstairs to the bathroom and roof space.
A thermal-imaging camera was used to check that the fire had not travelled through the roof to the neighbouring house.
West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Mike Fox said: “Fire fighting operations finished just before 5.15am. Investigations by the fire investigation team and police scenes of crime officers to establish the cause are still going on.”
