A MAN is in a critical condition after being stabbed in an Acocks Green shop on Tuesday afternoon.
The unnamed victim, who is in his 30s and is thought to be the shopkeeper, received the injury following an altercation at the Yardley Road store.
A woman, who is believed to be the man’s partner, also received a cut to her arm before the offender escaped following the incident, which happened at 4.45pm.
Detectives from West Midlands Police’s Force Criminal Investigation Department have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Buck Rogers said: “We are in the very early stages of this inquiry, however it is clear that one man has been seriously injured during this incident which took place inside a small local shop.
“We are aware the offender left the scene on foot along Yardley Road towards Augusta Road and we urgently appeal for anyone who was in the area around 4.45pm to 5pm to come forward and pass on any information they may have.
“This is a very busy road and many people will have been in the area or passing through at the time.
“They could well hold information which may prove vital as this investigation progresses.”
Officers sealed off the busy Yardley Road during Tuesday’s rush hour and diverted traffic to nearby Douglas Road while they made inquiries.
A white forensic tent was erected in front of the premises and officers conducted reassurance patrols throughout the evening.
Anyone with information is urged to call Stechford Police station on 0345 113 5000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
