LOLLIPOP lady Ann Conway has been looking out for local children for almost 40 years and now she’s been awarded a coveted MBE.
Ann, aged 69 and from Chelmsley Wood, said she was delighted by the news and is looking forward to meeting the Queen later this year.
The well-known pensioner has been the crossing warden at St Anne’s Primary School since 1971. With seven children and 11 grandchildren, Ann has seen two generations of her family start and leave the school. At nine-years-old, her youngest grandson Cavan still attends. “It really is a lovely job - a real family affair,” she said. “The kids are lovely, and I’ve never had problems from anyone.”
She was nominated by her daughter Janet - who was still in a pushchair when her mum started the job.
