A PR GURU from Dorridge has launched her Green Apple Communications company - aimed at helping farming and rural businesses avoid press disasters.

Sarah Whitelock worked in communications for the government and BBC before her most recent role as Head of Communications at the National Farmers’ Union.

Sarah Whitelock worked in communications for the government and BBC before her most recent role as Head of Communications at the National Farmers’ Union. It was there, managing its press team during the difficult Foot and Mouth and E coli outbreaks, she says she learnt to deal with any crisis a business could throw at her.

“They threatened the very existence of some businesses and any one of them could have developed into public relations disasters.

“Getting help from someone that knows the farming background and has expertise in how the media operates could make the difference between something that blows over quickly and a press story that becomes unmanageable.”

Ms Whitelock is also hoping that farming business will come to her and business partner Amanda Wood, Senior Account Manager at Central Office of Information, for help with growing their company.

“I really enjoyed being a champion for the farming industry while I was with the NFU,” she added.

“This has inspired me to work with individual businesses on how they can harness the growing interest in British food to develop their sales and marketing and reach new customers.”
