CAMPAIGNERS will be flocking to Mell Square next Wednesday, hoping to put pressure on health bosses to keep full maternity services in Solihull.
Andrew Lansley, Shadow Secretary for Health, Meriden MP Caroline Spelman and Maggie Throup - who is leading a campaign against the planned cuts - will be among the speakers.
Crowds will then march to Solihull Hospital, where they will hand over a letter, outlining their concerns, to bosses.
Ms Throup said: “We are putting out a call to everyone across the borough to come to the rally to show their support for Solihull’s maternity services.
“There has been a tremendous response to our campaign since its launch in June and the rally will help to show the hospital management the strength of feeling against its proposal.”
And Mrs Spelman added that it was vital that the NHS reconsidered its plans and looked to reintroduce paediatric services to the hospital.
The rally is being held at 4pm next Wednesday (September 9). Protesters will meet in Mell Square before moving on to the hospital. Everyone is welcome.
* A separate protest - taking place on the Friday - has been organised by Solihull MP Lorely Burt. That rally, announced in last week’s Solihull News, will start outside the Royal British Legion, Union Road at 11.30pm.
