Record-breaking appeal

SOLIHULL Royal British Legion is celebrating another record-breaking Poppy Appeal.

SOLIHULL Royal British Legion is celebrating another record-breaking Poppy Appeal.

The branch announced this week that it had received over £50,000 from generous residents - with some money still to come in.

Chairman Dave Mouzer said they’d toppled last year’s total and thanked local people for their support.

“It’s been a fantastic effort by residents, businesses and our volunteers - even the Mayor helped with collections.

“We’re obviously aware that these are tough financial times, but people have dug deep and supported us.

“There’s still more to come and it’s difficult to say, but I think that will take us over the £52,000 mark.”

In recent years, the branch has collected the highest total in Warwickshire - about £10,000 more than any other club.

Over five years, the group has received a combined total of £200,000 - with this year’s haul taking them over a quarter of a million.

Money raised from the Poppy Appeal will help veterans of military campaigns, past and present, along with their dependants.
