SO correspondent G Lloyd from Knowle appears to be shocked that Councillor Hillas has not been compelled to resign his seat over an alleged sexual assault (Letters) - hardly surprising, as Mr Lloyd is only aware of what he reads in the press, apparently!
A more relevant appraisal was written by the previous (anonymous) correspondent, asking why a young lady of her years was dancing alone with Ian Hillas at four in the morning - fact is that no ‘assault’ took place at all, the whole case resting upon the fact that the girl concerned was under 18.
As for Mr Lloyd’s shock and righteous indignation, I’d challenge any red-blooded man in the borough to stand up and swear, hand on heart, that he has never kissed a pretty girl at a party; that is what often happens at parties, for Pete’s sake!
I’d suggest to those who have similar thoughts to take on board our resident apostle, Mr Thomas’ stance on the matter - ‘judge them not, lest you in turn be judged and be found wanting’.
HOW sad that local Lib Dems are intent on smearing David Cameron’s Conservatives.
Their recent ‘Solihull Gazette’ magazine asserts: “Conservatives launch assault on our NHS”. On closer inspection, there is nothing of substance to this story. The fact is that the party is committed to the NHS in principle and to safeguarding spending on it. David Cameron has repeatedly pledged that the party stands “full square behind the NHS”. This is demonstrated not just in words but in Conservative social action and campaigning, evidenced by Maggie Throup who is leading the local fight against maternity service cuts.
Voters rightly consider local issues when they go into the ballot box. But national issues are more critical than ever in this coming election.
The Lib Dems are soft on crime and sentencing at a time when people are rightly angry about issues such as violent burglary. They are instinctive federalists who want to drag us deeper into the European Union and threaten our Pound Sterling.
They are, like Gordon Brown, instinctive squanderers of people’s hard-earned money. It is the Conservatives who best understand and will honour the British people’s balanced instincts on key policies.
