SOMETIMES I dread the hairdressers. All the hype about ‘treating yourself’ to a new do, when in reality you know you’ve got a battle on your hands to get the stylists to understand what you want rather than their latest styling vision.
So I couldn’t have been more pleased when I visited Regis Hair Salon in Drury Lane recently and the stylist Hannah insisted on sitting down for a good chat before going near the scissors or dye to find out exactly what I’d like.
Already having dip dyed hair, I explained I wanted a more graduated, natural look and we decided on using two colours, a light brown then blond.
With my long, long locks, Hannah suggested I stood up as she snipped off a good few inches to thicken it up and lose the split ends before the dye was applied.
Then it was off to the sink for the first of many washes.
A lightener was placed on my hair from around shoulder length to the end, before being washed off and a light, golden brown, using Illumina Colour, was put where my natural colour met the blond.
Once the colour begin to show, it was back to the sink and a toner was placed on the ends to really bring out the blond.
To finish it off, a conditioning treatment was massaged into my hair.
After the final wash, I could really see the colour had worked a treat while the treatment had left a glossy, healthy-looking shine. The graduation from my natural dark brown, to a lighter shade before merging into a golden blond was just as we had discussed, and a great improvement to my former look.
After my hair was carefully styled with a lovely natural curl and body, I was delighted with the final result.
But most importantly, I felt Hannah had really listened and understood exactly what I was after.
I couldn’t recommend the salon highly enough.
Regis are currently offering a cut and one colour for just £50.
