MORE than 5,000 petitions from residents opposed to plans to close two of the threatened Post Offices in Solihull were presented to the head of the consultation process.

Solihull MP Lorely Burt joined Peter Turner from Olton Hollow Post Office, to hand over petitions supporting the branches in Olton Hollow and Haslucks Green Road.

The petitions were given to Mark Partington, who has led the consultation on proposed closures in Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry for Post Office Ltd.

Ms Burt will be collecting more petitions from shops in Shirley and sending them along with her written submission to the consultation team, before the deadline on Monday.

She said: "The future of all three post offices is of vital importance to our local communities. My thanks go to residents and post office customers who have responded so magnificently to our petitions.

"It was vital that at this stage they reached the people charged with making the final decision. There is a strong case for keeping all three post offices under threat in Solihull open."
