A PARISH priest from Solihull will be on a wing and a prayer when he “jumps for Jesus” next month.
The Reverend Keith Claringbull is to make a 13,000ft skydive to raise money for church funds and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
“I hope I won’t be needing the ambulance after I’ve landed,” he said wryly. “But if I do I know I will get the best of medical treatment.”
The Rev Claringbull, who is priest-in-charge at Hampton-in-Arden, will be making his “leap of faith” at Hinton Sky Diving Centre at Brackley, Northamptonshire, on July 7.
The 59-year-old father-of-two will be jumping with seven members of staff at the Beeches Bar & Grill in Hampton, who are also being sponsored.
“I’ll be strapped to an experienced skydiver, there’ll be 45 seconds of freefall and then four minutes under the parachute descending gently to earth,” said the Rev Claringbull.
“I’ve never undertaken a parachute jump before, the furthest I’ve fallen is when I jumped off the garden shed as a boy.
“But there’s a first time for everything, and this is in aid of good causes.
“By jumping for Jesus I’m hoping to raise £10,000 for church funds and help pay for the refurbishment of the church hall.”
