PARENTS fear that the school-run will cost them dear after changes to parking in Marston Green.
The car park at the Marston Green Tavern, in Station Road, is used by mums and dads dropping off their children at nearby primary schools.
But charges have been brought in for using the parking bays - leading to calls for parent parking permits.
Bickenhill Parish Council said the changes caused chaos last week - with cars parking in nearby Elmdon Lane and refuse lorries unable to complete their rounds.
A spokeswoman said the snarl-up illustrated the lack of parking in the village and advised parents to park on only one side of the road in future.
Councillor Bob Sleigh (Con, Bickenhill) said that he wanted to see a common-sense approach, to resolve the issue.
“The charge is £1 for two hours. But for parents who drop off and pick up their children, that adds up to £10 a week.
“Obviously, the company can do what they like with their own car park, but there is an issue of child safety and changing a long-standing arrangement.
“I’d like to see us come to some agreement, for parents to have permits.”
Coun Sleigh said he was hoping that an agreement would be reached and has contacted Local Parking Security, the firm managing the site.
A spokesman for LPS said that because they only managed the car park on behalf of a client, they were unable to comment.
