A ROMANIAN woman caught taking over £700 worth of stock from stores in Solihull is thought to have been encouraged to steal, a court has heard.

Ionela Iocob was charged with stealing jackets from TK Maxx in Mell Square, worth £209, on August 4 and £500 worth of sunglasses from the Sunglasses Hut on the same day.

The 21-year-old’s solicitor, Philip Haycock, explained his client had not been in the country for long. He said: “This young lady has been brought to this area by an unknown male. It is unclear as to what financial reward, if any, she would have obtained. She seems to have been a pawn within this situation.”

Iocob, a cleaner from London, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and was fitted with an electronic tag for the next four weeks. She was also made to pay £660 in compensation and £85 costs.
