I LIVE in Berkeley Road and this was the first week we had our rubbish collected from our new wheelie bins. Or should that be half collected?
Having carefully followed all the very strict instructions issued by Solihull Council as to what we are not allowed to place in the bin, where it has to be placed, by what time etc, I was dismayed to return home this evening to find two bags of (smelly) kitchen waste (not recyclable I hasten to add) left in the bottom of our wheelie bin.
On phoning the council I was told this can happen if the waste is compacted and doesn’t slip out easily when the bin is tipped onto the truck.
Surely if the refuse collectors are paid to empty the bins it should be in their job description to ensure they have actually emptied them before moving on to the next? It takes only seconds to lift the lid and check.
Perhaps Solihull Council needs to make an addition to their instructions - “loosen the rubbish in your bin before you put it out........”
