I AM a year 13 student at Solihull 6th Form College and I was shocked when I read the letter from Melanie Guthrie in the Solihull News.
The comment she made about ‘free periods’ is incorrect. A levels are a stressful time for teenagers. They involve a lot of time, effort and hard work so we need these free periods to get extra work, homework etc done and as a time to relax.
I have walked through Malvern Park for over a year now and I believe the behaviour of the college students is generally acceptable. Her statement about ‘large crowds of intimidating youngsters’ and that we make ‘sexist or racist comments about each other, people around them etc’ is a massive generalisation.
I also disagree about the park being a ‘no-go area at all times of the day’. I rarely see a group of students bigger than four. At lunch there are bigger groups in the park but they are quietly sitting on the grass minding their own business.
