BRIGHT young talent Samantha Williams has already impressed up and down the country with her 'Second Skin' knitwear, and now she has attracted interest from top creatives.
Sam takes old car tyres and gives them a new lease of life coating the outside of them with tyre-tread knitwear to turn them not only into interesting display pieces but also comfortable furniture.
As well as being a talented textiles designer, the 23-year-old also loves life in the fast lane, and recently took her racing license, having impressed in a number of track days and competitions.
She first came up with her idea while studying textiles at Derby University. Sam wanted to combine her love of motorsport with her knitwear skills. Eventually this became 'Second Skin' and her knitted car tyres.
Samantha caught the attention of NOISE festival, an online showcase of the hottest creative talent the UK has to offer. Sam was selected by Noki, one of the country's leading designers, who was so impressed with what he saw he declared his wish to work with her at some point in the future.
Despite the interest she's had, Sam hasn't been able to find away that can make her 'Second Skin' tyres. Although at the moment, she has actual car tyres, coated in knitwear, she wants to replace them with foam.
"I've had lots of interest wherever they've been on display, people have been asking whether they can buy them but it's a shame as I can't manufacture them," Sam said.
While Sam looks for someone who can help produce her knitwear, she will keep up her relentless schedule of displaying the tyres around the country as well as tearing round the race track when she gets chance.
