Samaritan to the rescue

A GOOD Samaritan has come to the rescue of a Solihull resident who was ripped off by a conman.

A GOOD Samaritan has come to the rescue of a Solihull resident who was ripped off by a conman.

Phil Traylor of FCM & Ground Maintenance Ltd read in the Solihull News of the plight of Dr Buland Akhtar who had paid a labourer to clear his garden rubbish - and then scarpered without finishing the job.

Dr Akhtar had paid ‘Lee’ £250 to remove garden rubbish from his Damson Parkway property. The man, who said he was from Wythall, then dumped not only Dr Akhtar’s debris at the front of his house but also that of his neighbours’ who had also paid Lee to clear their gardens.

Phil, who operates in the Damson Parkway area was so incensed by the story that he offered to clear the huge amount of branches and shrubbery for free, a gesture Dr Akhtar was overwhelmed by.

Dr Akhtar from Kendrick Close said: “I am deeply touched by it. There are two sides of the coin - Lee who took my money and ran and this, which has restored my faith in human nature.”

Phil who is coincidentally based in Wythall added: “A lot of my customers are elderly and it just left a nasty taste in my mouth. Even if I was desperate for business I wouldn’t go around knocking on doors.

“I am a member of the Federation of Small Businesses and I would advise people that the first thing is to never pay money up front. Don’t pay until you are satisfied with the work.”
