SAMRA rebranded for local elections

SOLIHULL & Meriden Residents’ Association (SAMRA) will field candidates at this month’s local elections under a new name.

SOLIHULL & Meriden Residents’ Association (SAMRA) will field candidates at this month’s local elections under a new name.

The group, formed in 2010, has been rebranded and members will now stand as an Independent Ratepayer or Independent Ratepayer & Residents Association.

Members say the name change will reinforce ties with the Solihull Ratepayers’ Association.

Dug Brown, from Monkspath, has become the association’s new chairman – taking over from Josie Herbert.

The party will stand in fewer wards this time – five overall – but said it was concentrating resources where it had polled the highest vote previously. It came second in Blythe in 2011.
