TWO proud parents from Solihull have celebrated New Year with an unexpected addition to the family.
Despite predictions that their son Samuel would be born on New Year’s Day, Amanda and Richard Fletcher were convinced he would be born days later.
But after the couple, from Olton, had seen in the New Year with a celebratory glass of water, Amanda, aged 37, started to feel her contractions getting stronger.
Richard, aged 39 rushed her to Heartlands Hospital at 2am and Samuel was one of the first babies in the region to greet 2012 at 4.09am.
The couple also have a three-year old daughter, Ava, and Mrs Fletcher said: “She thought he was coming on Christmas Day with the presents but we weren’t expecting him yet at all.”
