ONE of the oldest scout groups in the world is hoping to celebrate its centenary next year in a completely refurbished headquarters that will be its home for the next 100 years.

The 1st Knowle Scout Group wants to replace its dilapidated HQ with a purpose-built, eco-friendly centre that will provide a focal point for many village organisations.

But the group needs over £250,000 to completely refurbish the scout hut situated between St John's Close and Lodge Road that has served the group so well since 1967.

Piers Bennett, Group scout leader, said: "We desperately need a new headquarters. The current building is falling down. It has a leaking roof and the scouts have to use a portable loo.

The Scouts have already secured detailed planning permission to refurbish their new home and are now trying to raise the money to start the building work.
