OVER 300 Sea Cadets converged on HMS Raleigh for the weekend recently to take part in the annual Sea Cadet South West Area Drill and Piping competitions.

Cadets from the local Shirley & District Unit took part in the “Armed Guard” section of the competition.

They excelled in obtaining silver medals for both the “Drill” display and “Best Armed Guard Commander” sections.

South West Area covers Sea Cadet Units from the West Midlands, South Wales and South West England covering in total nine districts.

These results follow on from the Warwickshire district competition where the Shirley & District Unit obtained “gold” medals.

There are 10 Sea Cadet units within the Warwickshire area and all are able to enter cadets into one or all of the “Armed Guard”, Unarmed Guard” and Piping sections of the competitions.

The commanding officer of Shirley & District unit congratulated the cadets on achieving their silver medals especially as it is the first time that the majority of this year’s drill squad have taken part in this event.
