Severe burns lead to man's death

A 47 YEAR-old man has died after receiving severe burns in an incident at his home in Solihull on Monday.

A 47 YEAR-old man has died after receiving severe burns in an incident at his home in Solihull on Monday.

The unidentified man was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital from Wellington Grove, off Greswolde Road, with 80-90 per cent burns, but later died. Further details were not available.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an incident support officer, a rapid response paramedic, an ambulance crew and the County Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene after receiving a call at 6.30am.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "A file is being prepared for the coroner. This is not being treated as a suspicious incident."

The air ambulance landed in the nearby Oak Cottage Primary School field just before 7am and the man was airlifted to the burns unit at Selly Oak Hospital at 7.20am. Jeremy Sharpe from West Midlands Fire Service added: "The fire was out on arrival. It was investigated by police scenes of crime officers and our Fire Investigation Team and police have said the incident is not suspicious.

A man was taken to hospital, where he sadly died.

"The matter is now in the hands of the coroner."

The coroner's office was informed on Tuesday and a postmortem was being arranged.

The inquest opens today.
