A Shirley couple are celebrating 20 years together by running a marathon.
Julie and John Russell will take on the Jersey Marathon this Sunday.
The couple, who married two years ago, aim to raise money for the Epilepsy Society after a close friend was diagnosed with the condition.
“We run a lot together but have never run a full marathon together,” said Julie, 38. “We wanted to do something really memorable to mark the occasion and this seemed fitting.
“We also wanted to raise money for this worthy charity.
“It took a long time for our friend to be diagnosed. She had seizures for a long time but didn’t know what was causing them.
“Since her diagnosis, her life has changed.
“The condition makes it difficult to be alone.
“Driving a car is not allowed and a major aspect is not knowing when the next seizure will occur.
“The lack of control is gone.
“The Epilepsy Society is one of the lesser-known charities and it aims to allow people with the condition to live a full life.
“We want to raise as much awareness and as much money as we can.”
The couple, who both work in IT, have raised just over £200 so far.
