A SHIRLEY couple claim their privacy has been destroyed by a neighbour’s property development scheme.

Julie and Steve Jones say all privacy has disappeared from their Widney Lane back yard after Paul Sura, of Blossomfield Developments Ltd, began work building three detached homes at the back of properties on Blossomfield Road.

Julie and Steve Jones say all privacy has disappeared from their Widney Lane back yard after Paul Sura, of Blossomfield Developments Ltd, began work building three detached homes at the back of properties on Blossomfield Road.

“We have no privacy left,” said Julie, a 55 year-old TV executive. “I just want to feel like my garden is my own again, and get on with my life.”

But it was nothing compared to their shock when, after a long winter, they came to use their lawnmower in February.

“I was so shocked to see the roof had been almost completely demolished and all our contents ruined,” she said.

“He’d had people cutting down trees next door and one has gone crashing through.

“We’ve had a quote to repair the roof of around £250 and we had about £900 of electrical equipment.

“We’re not claiming for everything, we’re trying to be as fair as possible.

“But he’s never apologised. He just told us to sort it out by our insurance companies.

“It would cost us a fortune to take it to small claims court and yes, we can claim on our insurance, but we will have to pay an excess and it could push up our premium.”

“I just can’t believe that people can do this and get away with it.”

Councillor Andy Hodgson (Shirley South, Lib Dem) added: “I went to visit them at the house and it was so obvious what had happened.

“In the conversations I have had, (Mr Sura) seems to want to resolve the issue but his actions speak louder than words.”

But Mr Sura said: “It’s up to their insurance company to contact the insurance company of the contractors.

“It’s a small little thing that has been blown into a massive thing.”

He added that surrounding properties had been happy with the development.

“We have had letters of appreciation, saying we have had it good. It could have been so much worse.

“I have had so much positivity around this.”
