AN HGV driver from Shirley is trading his truck for trainers this Sunday as he tackles his first half marathon for a cause very close to his heart.
Chris Dix is taking part in the Great Birmingham Run to raise funds for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, CLDF, after his five-year-old daughter was diagnosed with the rare liver disease, Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency.
“When Francesca was diagnosed with a disease we had never even heard of, CLDF were there with information and support and helped us through a really tough time,” said Chris. “I also admire the amount of funding the Foundation puts into researching children’s liver disease which I hope will one day help Francesca and other children like her.”
This Sunday’s (October 21) run will be the 30-year-old’s first half marathon but he hopes it won’t be his last. He added: “This is something I’ve always wanted to do so if it goes well, I’d like to tackle a full marathon next and maybe an overseas challenge in the future.”
