Shirley Town Centre Partnership is joining in on the national Independents Day campaign on July 4, to support local independent shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes and businesses in Shirley.
The aim of the initiative is that shoppers visit a local independent store on Independence Day and buy at least one item from the store, which in turn will help keep our High Streets alive. Skillsmart and the National Skills Academy for Retail are behind the project and have teamed up with retailers across the country to celebrate the diversity on the High Street.
There will be an Independents Family Day on June 30 from 11am-3pm organised by the Partnership, with lots of entertainment, music, craft activities, food tasting and face painting along the Stratford Road. Retailers have been asked to get involved too so they could be offering all sorts on the day!
Shoppers also be able to pick up a flyer with details of all the retailers who have special offers, tasters and trials on July 4 for people to get involved in. A special poster has been designed too for retailers and businesses to display in their windows.
Jim Ferry, Chair of Shirley Town Centre Partnership said; "I don't think people realise the specialism and knowledge some of our small retailers have along the Stratford Road; from designer furniture shops and carpet shop to delicious restaurants and cafes, they can take on the major retailers with a more personal service. I think this campaign will play a major part in supporting Shirley in the future and I hope retailers will get involved and shoppers will come and see whats on offer."
For more information or if you are a retailer that would like to get involved on the day please call Becki Wood, Shirley Town Centre Partnership on 0121 704 8752.
