AN unemployed man from Shirley has been fined for claiming over £11,000 of benefits he was not entitled to.
Christopher Dickinson, of Cropthorne Road, claimed Job Seekers Allowance (between December 2008 and April this year despite having over £50,000 worth of savings, Solihull Magistrates Court heard on Monday.
Kaya Ball, prosecuting, said the 48-year-old failed to declare his savings when he signed on in 2008 declaring he only held one bank account, which had around £11 in. It later transpired he had 11 Santander accounts and two Coventry accounts. Taken together, the amounts exceeded £50,000. Pree Brada, defending, said her client had since paid all of the money back.
Dickinson pleaded guilty to failing to notify the authorities of a change in circumstances. He was fined £110 and told to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
