CUSTOMERS of the Marks & Spencer (M&S) Simply Food outlet in Shirley have been urged to ‘use it or lose it’ following the news that the store will remain on Stratford Road for the time being.
M&S bosses have confirmed there are currently no proposals to close the branch, despite plans to open a new M&S on a nearby retail park.
However, the Simply Food store, will continue to be monitored, according to Solihull MP Lorely Burt.
Mrs Burt had previously written to the council to express concerns about Marks & Spencer’s plans to close the store and relocate to a retail park out of town.
But now the high street giant says they expect the Stratford Road store to remain open for ‘the foreseeable future,’ though plans for the new premises will go ahead as well.
Mrs Burt said: “I welcome this good news for Shirley shoppers.
“However, Marks & Spencer have been clear that they will look again at closing the Stratford Road store if it fails to generate enough business.
“So while I welcome the good news that the Stratford Road store is safe for now, I urge residents to use it or lose it.”
