Shafiq Ahmed at first denied inflicting grievous bodily harm and possessing a prohibited weapon, but changed his pleas to guilty on the day of his trial at Warwick Crown Court. The incident happened at Tesco, on the Stratford Road, in March 2011.

Ahmed, 28, of Stanway Road, Shirley, was sentenced to ten months in prison suspended for 12 months and was ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work.

Judge Richard Griffith-Jones described Ahmed’s behaviour as “disgraceful”.
