THE captain of Shirley Golf Club, Mark Butler, is organising a fundraising extravaganza for Alzheimer’s Society on Thursday, May 19.
Mark hopes to raise over £4000 by holding an auction and raffle on the charity day. There are many fantastic prizes up for grabs including the use of a Mini Cooper Cabriolet for the weekend, tailor made golf bag, visit to the Bentley factory in Crewe for two including lunch and meal vouchers for many popular restaurants in Solihull and Birmingham.
Mark said: ‘I decided to support Alzheimer’s Society because I lost my mother to the disease and saw for myself how distressing and cruel the disease is not only for the person with dementia but also for their family and friends. It’s great to think that Shirley Golf Club will be raising funds to help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.’
Emma Dowler of the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We are delighted that Shirley Golf Club is supporting Alzheimer’s Society. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.
“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of groups like Shirley Golf Club to help us continue our vital work. Please back them in their fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.’
