SMALL businesses are being asked to take up the offer of a stall on Shirley High Street, as part of an initiative to encourage people to shop local.

Shirley Town Team is running its annual family fun day on 29 June, which celebrates the many small independent retailers along Shirley High Street. As part of the day, small businesses are being given the opportunity to trade via a market stall.

The fun day gives visitors an insight into small specialist retailers with tasting tables, special offers, free workshops, craft activities and entertainment.

New this year is the opportunity for small businesses to take on a stall to promote their business and product, ideally new craft, art or specialist food businesses. There is a small charge for the stall and will be run on a first come first served basis.

The day is part of the lead up to the national initiative called Independents’ Day. Taking place on July 4, it aims to encourage shoppers to the High Street.
